On February 16-17, 2027, during the 2027 School Mid-Winter Recess, we willl take twenty-five (25) middle-schoolers, each accompanied by his/her respective parent, by a chartered bus to the Chantilly, VA, location of Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum. We will travel by chartered bus, picking up the participants at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2027, and returning by 10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2027.
On the 16th afternoon, we will meet with the local Interact Club and Robotics Club, and have activities planned with them. We will spend the 17th in the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly. In addition to the exhibits in the Museum, the participants will also have one or more active hands-on sessions in aspects of aerodynamics and other hands-on science experiments arranged with the Museum. After close of the Museum, we will return to New York.
The Trip is heavily subsidized by our Club, so the application fee is merely $100 per pair. This will cover all expenses reasonably anticipated: In addition to the transportation by chartered bus to/from the Museum, we will provide dinner on the 16th, overnight stay of 16-17 in a local hotel, breakfast on 17th, admission tickets to the Museum and all events therein, and lunch at the Museum on the 17th.
We want to make this unique educational experience affordable and within reach, and provide a welcome break for the many struggling single-parent families. In our previous trips, children and parents uniformly enjoyed the unique opportunity for enhanced parent-child bonding. And look out for the prizes: Last year, five students won cash prizes for their wonderful essays on their experience and what they learnt from the Trip.
We request you and your Club to help us with a donation, and/or promoting it to your Club and friends' circle. While no donation is small, every $500 would get you the opportunity to nominate a parent-child pair for the trip. Join us in making the world a slightly better place!
